WASHINGTON — The State Department confirmed Monday it will reinstall Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as Iran's leader since his existing security clearance remains valid.

Officials noted vetting a new candidate requires weeks of background checks, whereas Ahmadinejad's file is still active. "We cannot justify the budgetary impact of vetting a democrat when a known autocrat is already in the system," said Senior Policy Advisor Alan Kress.
