LOS ANGELES — A mayor from the Los Angeles area resigned Tuesday, admitting he has been acting as an agent for China and needs to dedicate himself to that work full time.

The move coincides with President Trump's visit to Beijing.

Local officials said the transition would be smooth, with the former mayor available for consultation on matters involving trade and cultural exchanges.
