WASHINGTON — The Department of Government Efficiency dissolved itself Monday after metrics identified its own payroll as the agency's primary waste stream. Staff were terminated effective immediately to satisfy cost-reduction mandates, leaving all underlying bureaucratic bloat intact.

"We cut the only thing we had authority over," said Senior Analyst Sarah Gowan. "Everything else was too hard."
