WASHINGTON — The National Park Service confirmed Monday it would commence repairs on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool following reports of damage widely acknowledged to be imaginary.

Crews smoothed fresh cement over undisturbed water Tuesday. "Reality is subordinate to the press release," said Acting Director Harold Brinton. "If the water refuses to hold a gash, we will pave it until it does."
